Hello Main Street Parents!
Thank you to all student readers and families that supported the Main Street Read A Thon! At the time of writing I don’t have the total amount that was raised, but I know that we were getting close to the goal of raising $15,000. Besides promoting reading, the Read A Thon has raised monies that support your child and their Main Street learning experience!
As I noted in a previous newsletter, we have an opportunity to bring the Girls on the Run program to Main Street Elementary. There is more information on the program here. In order for the program to be implemented, we would need two volunteer coaches. We have had one parent sign up as a coach and if you are interested in being a volunteer coach, please let me know.
Citizens’ Oversight Committee
Our district needs you! With the recent passage of Measure P, the Board of Trustees of the Soquel Union Elementary School District is seeking to establish a Citizens’ Oversight Committee. The committee’s legal charge is to ensure to the public that spending decisions made by the elected officials meet the intent of Proposition 39 and the ballot measure. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please contact the Assistant to the Superintendent, Jennifer Del Carlo at jdelcarlo@suesd.org for an application or download one from our website. All applications are due by the close of business on February 7, 2025.
Dual Language Immersion (DLI)
Eric Witter (principal) and one of the DLI teachers at Soquel Elementary will be holding a virtual Dual Language Immersion Parent Information meeting for the 2025/26 school year on February 5th, at 5:00 PM. It will consist of a short presentation, information about the DLI daily student experience, and time for questions. Here is the Zoom link for the meeting:

Community Voice Gatherings and Input Survey
Your voice matters in SUESD! Our district is hosting a “Community Voice Gathering” at each one of our school sites. The purpose of these gatherings is to share current district priorities with you, answer your questions, and hear your opinions. The date for the Community Voice Gathering to be held here at Main Street is February 26, 2025 @ 6:30 - 8:00 PM . If you can’t make it to the one hosted at our school, please feel free to attend the same event hosted at one of the other schools in our district on the dates below. Finally, please fill out the survey linked here so that we can have multiple ways to get your input.

For most of the school year, we have improved our attendance, though we were down for the month of January. Most families have also been using the short term independent study option that has also helped improve our attendance. A reminder that you can access the short term independent study option by here.

¡Gracias a todos los estudiantes lectores y familias que apoyaron el Main Street Read A Thon! Inmersión en dos idiomas (DLI)

Reuniones de voces comunitarias y encuestas de aportes
¡Tu voz importa en SUESD! Nuestro distrito está organizando una “Reunión de voz comunitaria” en cada uno de nuestros sitios escolares. El propósito de estas reuniones es compartir con usted las prioridades actuales del distrito, responder sus preguntas y escuchar sus opiniones. La fecha para la reunión de voces comunitarias que se llevará a cabo aquí en Main Street es el 26 de febrero de 2025 a las 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. . Si no puede asistir al que se organiza en nuestra escuela, no dude en asistir al mismo evento que se realiza en una de las otras escuelas de nuestro distrito en las fechas a continuación. Finalmente, por favor complete la encuesta enlazada aquí para que podamos tener múltiples formas de recibir su opinión.
