Hello Main Street Parents!
Monday, October 7th through Thursday, October 10 are shortened days in order that teachers can meet with you to report on your child’s progress. During conference week students leave at the following times:
TK/K - 11:30 AM 1st/2nd/3rd - 11:50 AM 4th/5th - 12:00 noon
World Day of Bullying Prevention is tomorrow, Monday, October 7th. We are encouraging our students and staff to wear blue to show support for this effort.
A couple of items from our counselor Betsy Crawford:
October is also National Bully Prevention Month, we are focused on Empathy: understanding and connecting with other people’s feelings. Our younger students are working on identifying how others feel and the appropriate responses, while our older students are learning the role empathy plays in conflict resolution as well as leadership. Empathy is a practice that can help us grow strong relationships, which is the foundation for bully prevention too! In addition to exploring empathy, this month we will also spend time better understanding what bullying is and what students can do when faced with this challenge. Thanks to everyone who has reached out about Career Cafe! I had a lot of parent interest in this event! I am so excited and I know students will love hearing about the many different careers. I am currently working on scheduling parents to speak, thanks for your patience as I work through my list. Unfortunately, I am not able to have every parent present who has signed up but I will pass on all names to your student's teachers for them to do any additional speakers for their classes if they want. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Attendance rates are continuing to improve! Our September attendance was 95.3%, up 2.1.% compared to last year! Thank you to everyone who contributes to that effort. Let’s see if we can hit 96% for October.
When you are on campus for parent conferences this week, please check the lost and found for clothing items. At the end of this week unclaimed items will be donated to Goodwill.
Get your Drive For Schools tickets here, the Friends of Main Street (FOMS) have a goal to raise $20,000, and if we do, we’ll celebrate with an exciting magic show for the students on November 8th. Ticket sales end on October 20th, and thank you for your support.
On Thursday, 10/10/24, the annual Walk ‘N Roll To School event is happening. Students who bike, skate, scoot or walk to school get to enjoy a free breakfast! Their names will also be entered into an AMAZING prize raffle AND the class with the most participants will get treated to an Ice Cream Social, courtesy of Penny Ice Creamery!
Also on Thursday, 10/10/24, Dining For Dollars at Panda Express (2740 41st Ave, Soquel) takes place. From 9:30 AM until 10:30 PM, FOMS will receive 20% of proceeds from all patrons who present the event flier (either printed, which will be going home with students this week, or digitally)!

Octubre también es el Mes Nacional de Prevención del Bully, estamos enfocados en Empatía: comprender y conectarse con los sentimientos de otras personas. Nuestros estudiantes más jóvenes están trabajando para identificar cómo se sienten los demás y las respuestas apropiadas, mientras que nuestros estudiantes mayores están aprendiendo el papel que juega la empatía en la resolución de conflictos y en el liderazgo. La empatía es una práctica que puede ayudarnos a desarrollar relaciones sólidas, ¡que también es la base para la prevención del acoso! Además de explorar la empatía, este mes también dedicaremos tiempo a comprender mejor qué es el acoso y qué pueden hacer los estudiantes ante este desafío. ¡Gracias a todos los que se han acercado a Career Cafe! tuve un montón de padres interesados en este evento!
